Western remembers the professor killed in car accident

more than a month, Western Illinois University professor lost respected and admired in a car accident.

Sudhir Gokhale, associate professor of mathematics, and his wife, Sharada, died July 4 after their car was in flames to travel west on Illinois 97 west of Springfield.

Witnesses on the ground were unable to extract both the vehicle after the Illinois State Police.

The Gokhales return flight was a visit with their children and grandchildren in California.

Speeches from the west funeral, tentatively scheduled for September, is underway.

Iraj Kalantari, math department chair, said he works with the family and the hotel, so that the Western community may be respected.

“I think it is important, because unfortunately, it happened during the summer and many students can not achieve what is happening and may be only now discover,” Mary Swarthout, assistant professor of mathematics, said.

Quite new to the faculty, Swarthout knew Gokhale for two years.

“His mandate was the hall of the mine and there were more and more students come and go, I have the impression that they felt comfortable with him,” she added.

Next week, the Faculty of Mathematics satisfied on the whole, for the first time since the tragedy.

Several members of the Faculty of Gokhale remembered as a kind man well loved by all.

Alan Bishop, a mathematics teacher, has worked with Gokhale, since it began in the Western.

On the question of his thoughts about a possible funeral, the bishop said he would be really nice, because nothing has been done, nor in the Western.

Larry Welch, professor of mathematics, said he was very soft-manieriert, and laughed, it was even a little absent-minded.

Born in Poona, India, Gokhale earned his Bachelor and Master in the financial Karnatak College in Dharwad in India. He earned his Ph.D. the University of Kansas in 1983, after learning he began in the Western.

Two of his children has also adopted at the university.

After Kalantari, Gokhale planned to retire in a few years, a rapprochement with his children.
