In Defense of Legal Services for the poor

A majority of Congress that Washington has decided to spend $ 400 million on legal services for the poor. But this small household is not really money (Congress found more than $ 7 billion for the Pentagon, this year, as requested by the president). The question is whether this program should be for everyone, or it exists in its present form. The private sector, nonprofit Legal Services Corporation (LSC) distributes federal quality-323 for programs neighbourhood of more than 1200 law firms. The programs are $ 232 million last year by the state, municipal and private sources.

None of this is criminal. It is civil affairs, things like divorce, departing from the airport a spouse abuse efforts to save the child, the fight against illegal content and evacuations defenses for victims of deception of consumers. The enemies of legal aid to say that these groups provide destructive cases, and sometimes they have a point. But the best in legal aid should be laid with evil.

With the “destroyer”, critical of the rule would involve class action on behalf of the poor. For example, during the year 1983 a group of legal services forced, Illinois disgorge child maintenance payments collected by fathers, but never paid for eligible mothers. In a famous 1967 case, a legal aid group (linked to a precursor of the current LSC) arrested in California Cup of medical services for low-income people.

But if California and Illinois were, indeed, to act illegally, which is destructive to complain? If your sickness illegally reduced, you and other insured, it would be a process.
